Sure lots of other places sale tomahawks, but only FirePoint Creations offers a variety of price points and styles of tomahawks that can be engraved. Engraving goes on the stainless steel ferrel on the handle. The best feature is that this hawk can be engraved. Also can be used in throwing competitions. While the SOG tomahawk is tough and can get any job done, it works equally as well as a military gift or award and also make a cool groomsmen gift that will be used and never forgotten. The blade geometry ensures a sharp yet durable tool that will not chip easily. Ok so this thing is made to disturb flesh (see below) but it is also for digging, breaking, opening, and hammering. This hawk works exceptionally well for breaching situations, extraction operations, equipment destruction and general cutting and chopping jobs. The SOG Specialty Knives & Tools F01TN-CP Tactical Tomahawk is a versatile tool for breaching operations, excavation, obstacle removal, extraction and other utility applications. Our featured SOG tomahawk looks incredibly similar the tomahawks used in the Vietnam War with some improvements like its 402 stainless steel cutting head and the fiberglass reinforced nylon handle. Today, the use of hawks in the military continues. Tomahawks were not standard issued weapons, but were used by entire Companies and Special Ops personnel. Still, for this price point, it is a great value, and you pretty much know it will be good, as it's made by SOG.Engraved SOG FAST TomahawkYou might be surprised to know that tomahawks were used by the US Marines and Army during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s. I only wish that it was just a bit bigger, and perhaps that it was made with a better steel. The sheath also seems to be designed well, and I don't think it will scuff, scratch, or dull the blade.Overall, it is a nice little weapon and tool that should perform its job nicely, and is definitely worth the money, especially being something made by SOG. Perhaps if it didn't have the two holes in the blade, it might be capable of that, but I feel that this was primarily meant as a combat weapon/survival tool. Finally, the sheath is very secure, and seems quite sturdy. I don't feel that it would split wood well, because it lacks enough mass for the chopping power. The black coating was completely unaffected. That will easily be polished out, though. Unfortunately, it did scuff the blade (only the part that doesn't have the black coating), which I expected with cardboard. The blade sunk its way into it all the way to the handle with little effort. The blade is what really wowed me, though. The spike punctured all the way through to the other side of the box effortlessly. A 15.75 tomahawk with a 420 stainless steel head with hardcased coating is mounted to the fiberglass reinforced nylon handle, with heavy-duty bolts and a steel. I know it's not an ideal cutting target, but its what I had, and I didn't feel like trying it on anything tougher. I took a couple swings at the cardboard packaging it came in, still stuffed with packing paper, the other box, and styrofoam. #Sog tomahawk plus#Another nice plus is that if the handle should ever break (unlikely, but possible), it wouldn't be difficult to replace.Even for a small weapon, it packs a great deal of power. With bare hands, I can keep a fairly firm grip on it, and with gloves, it'll be great. I have fairly large hands, so I wish it was a bit bigger, but even so, it's not bad. The handle is pretty comfortable, albeit a bit narrower than I thought it would be. As far as balance goes, it balances approximately 3" from the head, and has a nice amount of heft for chopping and cleaving blows with a small weapon. That's what I was worried about, being that it's made of 420 stainless steel, as opposed to something with a higher carbon content. I just hope it will hold its edge well enough. While being just slightly over a foot in length might make this axe sound a bit shrimpy, it’s hardly a knock against it. It actually cut paper very easily, so I am very pleased with it. SOG’s Survival Hawk Tomahawk is a supremely versatile piece of equipment, sporting a number of eclectic features that, more than just about any other ax, make it a must-have for outdoorsmen of all stripes. The blade is very surprisingly sharp, too. I measured it, though, and saw that is the correct one. At first, I had thought I was actually sent the smaller version, the "Fast Hawk", by mistake. There was practically no way it could have gotten damaged during shipping. The tomahawk, itself, is smaller than I thought it would be. I live in Georgia, so it didn't take long to get here.
